Five fixed Longlight modules over the staircase and lobby of a house on Morse Street. The neighbouring houses sit so close that side windows bring in almost no light, so the only way to light the middle of the house was from above.
A crane was not an option on this street under the City of Toronto permit rules. We built our own lifting structure on site and raised the modules to the roof by hand. The modules are heavy, and lifting them without a crane was the hardest part of the job.
The curb was built and flashed on site on the low-slope deck, and the light shaft below was framed and finished before the modules were set and glazed.
